Case Studies

Boombah Sports Complex

When the Central Florida Sports Commission and Seminole County Convention and Visitor's Bureau determined that a 100-acre site owned by Seminole County could be ideal for a sports complex, they reached out to Sports & Properties, Inc. for an assessment and plan. In Phase I of its work, SPI did benchmarking and analysis to determine the optimum sports, facilities, and configuration for the site. In Phase II, SPI developed event plans, economic impact projections, and operating pro formas. The result was a top-tier 15-field ballfield complex, primarily using artificial turf, that is capable of hosting a wide variety of sports events. The Boombah Sports Complex opened in May of 2016 and has hosted significant tournaments and events virtually every weekend since. It is considered by sports authorities in Florida to be one of the most successful of such complexes ever built.

ESPN Wide World of Sports at Disney World

Due to the continued growth and success of the ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World in Florida, Disney management executives were exploring ways to expand and enhance the complex. Sports & Properties, Inc. was called upon for an evaluation of the opportunities and a plan for new venues, particularly in aquatics. SPI developed event plans, cost analyses, and an economical aquatic center design for the complex.

Art Van Sports Complex

The West Michigan Sports Commission (WMSC) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was intent on developing a softball complex. Leaders of the WMSC felt tournament softball's popularity in Michigan was an opportunity, but the West Michigan region lacked the venues to take advantage of it. The WMSC, therefore, asked Sports & Properties, Inc. to perform an initial analysis of what it would take to develop an event-oriented ballfield complex. SPI's assessment and plan evolved into what is now the Art Van Complex, a 9-field complex in Grand Rapids, that is owned and operated by the WMSC, and is a significant sports tourism asset and major sports tournament draw for the area.

Troy Park Tennis Center

When tennis enthusiasts came together in Howard County, Maryland, to advocate for the development of a new tennis complex, they needed appropriate facts and figures to back their initiative. Sports & Properties, Inc. prepared a detailed economic impact analysis that included both the construction and operations of a new multi-court tennis complex for the Howard County tennis patrons, As a result, Howard County expanded its tennis facilities, which are heavily used for daily as well as tournament play.
